Good Friday

Good Friday

Good Friday (April): Also known as Holy Friday, Black Friday or Great Friday. It observes the Crucifixion and Death of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. It is mainly observed by Christian People. It is a very sad day for everyone as they remember Jesus Christ on the Cross and feel the pain and humiliation that he experienced just for the cause of Goodness and Humanity. Mostly everyone prayers and is fasting and the Bible is read for the message to spread that the way to conquer Evil is through Good and that Violence can be overcome through Non Violence and that one should Love and not Hate anyone. You might come across many Christians wearing Black Clothes as black is in many Religions is a color of mourning. Some even tell and act the whole Crucifixion and Burial of Jesus Christ. Many Churches cover the Cross and Altar with Black. In many Churches you will see a wooden Cross and people not only offer prayers but also kiss it for blessings. Also you will see that in many Churches people will not light up any candles where as in some Churches, candles are lit but there are extinguished one by one and the last candle is left and is put out marking the time of Jesus Christ’s Death. According to many people, Jesus Christ died around 3.00 pm. And that is the time the candle is extinguished. On the day of Good Friday the Church Bells are not rung. Many people on the day of Good Friday sing Hymns. Quotes and Verses from the Bible

1)      “God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son.”- John 3:16

2)      “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.
In you, O LORD, I take refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
In your justice rescue me.
Into your hands I commend my spirit;
you will redeem me, O LORD, O Faithful God.”
- Luke 23:46

Easter

Easter

Easter (April): Easter is celebrated two days after Good Friday. It is celebrated with great amount of energy and religious endeavor, just like any other festival in India. Easter is mainly celebrated more elaborately in Mumbai, Goa and the North Eastern States. Christians from all over the Country make many arrangements for Easter. If one really wants to get the feel of Easter Celebrations then a good place to go is Goa, reason being that is a Portugal Colony in India and here you will come across celebrations like anywhere else in the World. People in Goa sing songs, dance and all the Christians make mouth watering cakes and once the prayer services are over friends and relatives exchange the Holy Cross. When you think of Easter how can one forget the delicious food that is made. All the Lunches, Dinners and of course the Easter Parties. Another interesting traditional that you will come across in India during Easter is the exchange of colorful lanterns. Worshippers go to Churches for special prayers, exchange gifts and even though people don’t decorate Easter Eggs in India but they still make it a point to buy beautifully decorated Easter Eggs and buy Easter Bunnies just to carry on the Old Tradition.  Easter is celebrated as it symbolizes new beginnings and the joy of the spring harvest season. So go ahead, have lots of fun, enjoy the delicious food and this wonderful festival.
