Amritsar Day 01 / Day 2

Harmandir Sahib Amritsar

Harmandir Sahib Amritsar

It was a beautiful rainy day on the 24th of July 2010 in Delhi. With my bags packed and me all ready to go to the airport, I cannot wait to board the aircraft to reach Amritsar. Since the flight to Amritsar is not long, just after 1 hr. we landed in the City of the Harmandir Sahib-Amritsar. On arrival the excitement was building as I couldn’t wait to check into Hotel Ista. A lovely hotel which did meet my expectations and the best part was that they had a Spa which I was just dying to try out. It was 8:00pm and any guesses what happened? Yes I started feeling really hungry. For those who are not aware other than a visit to the Harmandir Sahib and other places to see, the food is something which is making me feel hungry even just writing about it. If you are a foodie like me the one thing I can say is that the food is to die for.

Punjabi Food

I went to Amritsar with my family so the whole experience of going to places that people recommend just makes it even better. So a few of us left for dinner to a place called “ Surjit Food Plaza” In my mind I thought that we would sit outside and eat delicious food but I was surprised after a 15-20 minute drive that it was indoors. So not only was it cool but the food we ate is something that I can’t even write about. So just think for a second about the scrumptious food that we ate and let those saliva glands and empty stomach do all the talking. Ever thought about as to why the food is so tasty in Amritsar? It’s a very simple answer and that is everything is made in Ghee (Clarified Butter) so now everyone knows the secret as to why it’s so rich and tasty. Trust me its worth all those calories. If after eating at Surjit Food Plaza do you have any place left or are you full? If you still have some place left then just across the road from there is a place called “Durga” and it is at this place where you can indulge in eating fruit cream or ice cream its worth trying it. Only thing that after eating like a glutton all you could think of and do is to hit the sack am I right? Most of you would say yes because that’s what I could think and do. So after a 15-20min. drive back to the hotel which at this time felt really long because of excessive eating. As I take the elevator back to my room all I could think about was to just plunk myself on the bed and sleep like a baby and that’s exactly what happened. All I can say that your experience of day 01 in Amritsar at Surjit Food Plaza and Durga will really be worth your precious time and great value for money and don’t start counting those calories. Happy Eating!
