Dollar value risingThe depreciating Indian rupee is causing many cancellations to foreign lands by Indian tourists because the rupee no longer gets you the same amount of holiday thrills as it used to. Compounding this, is sky high airfares due to strikes in Air India, and cancellations of many flights by Kingfisher Airlines, making overseas travel at least 15-30% costlier this tourist season.

This is causing vacationers to cancel, cut short or postpone their journeys. Long haul journeys have been impacted the most, with costs rising by an average 25-30%   in the US and Europe. South East Asian nations have been impacted less with costs averaging about 10-20% more in Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The most affected tourists have been those who booked their tickets long in advance. Dubai and Singapore seem to have captured the largest slice of the pie visa-vie foreign travels. However, many middle class vacationers are opting for 8-9 days trip instead of 12-13 day trip, and preferring short haul destinations like the Middle East and South East Asia in order to maintain their budget.

On the flip side; most domestic tourists are now visiting the Indian hotspots of tourism with Goa, a preferred destination for honeymooners and beach lovers, Mumbai, a city that never sleeps and Delhi, the capital with its disparate sights and sounds leading the pack. For the same amount of money, you can stay in five star hotels in India compared to budget hotels in Europe and America. Kerala is already shown the way by registering a record arrival of one crore tourists during the last one year, a trend that is sure to be copied by other states by showcasing their own places of touristic value.Beach Football in Goa

As the sweltering heat continues, more tourists are thronging to hill stations like Nainital, Srinagar, Gangtok, Ooty, Mount Abu and Darjeeling. Even religious places like Dwarka, Hardwar, Badrinath and Kedarnath, are showing high influx of domestic tourists. This maybe a chance for you to see parts of India where you have never before, as the trend is likely to continue till the market volatility and the economic situation stabilizes.View of Himalayas
