Delhi the capital city of India is a beautiful city, and itself is a tourist destination. However this lovely capital city of India has one major minus point. Delhi is known to get really hot and sometimes even humid. The temperature is known to go as high as 45’c during the summer months.

It’s these climatic conditions that compel Delhiites to make the summer dash to any of the places to visit near Delhi and escape the heat and the work load. Also, taking short vacations has become a trend for Delhiites; therefore picking any one of the tourist places near Delhi for a holiday is more the norm rather the exception.

All this talk about going for a holiday to any of the numerous tourist places near Delhi must have you asking that question: but where? Well the good news is that (thankfully) there are a plethora of tourist places near Delhi where you can escape the crazy (sizzling) heat and treat yourself to a great weekend getaway from Delhi.

So be it the great Himalayan Mountains, the great Indian deserts and the dry barren regions surround Delhi in all sides. And, all these destinations are easily accessible both by land and air routes.

There’s nothing like fighting fire with ice. If Delhi’s heat has made you into a boiled egg, then why not escape to these hill stations near Delhi for some much needed calm, peace, revitalization and cool comfort.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh): The capital city of Himachal Pradesh is located about 280 km from Delhi. Its elevation is above 2100 meters above the sea level. The pleasant weather, the scenic beauty and the architect attract tourists and honeymooners throughout the year.

Mussoorie (Uttaranchal): Mussoorie is also known as the “Queen of Hills”. It is located 230 km away from Delhi. The town is elevated 2500 meters above the sea level.  And, amidst the pine grove is the town Mussoorie, a popular weekend destination for many Delhiites

Nainital (Uttaranchal): Nainital 250 km away from Delhi, with an elevation of 1900 meters. Observatory, naina peak, snow view, land’s end and kilbury are some famous touristy spots in Nainital.

Chail (Himachal Pradesh): Chail is a hill resort station located approximately 375 km away from Delhi. The town which is elevated 2,250 meters above the sea level is a paradise during the summer months with many historical backgrounds.

Dehradun (Uttaranchal): Dehradun or Doon Valley is located close to places like Rishikesh, Yanumotri, Badrinath and Haridwar. It takes about six hours to reach the destination by car. Doon Valley is approximately 235 km away from Delhi, with an altitude of 695 meters.

Solan (Himachal Pradesh): Solan is one of the most renowned touristy places in Himachal, located around 310 km away from Delhi. Elevated around 1350 meters above the sea level Solan is the gateway to Himachal Pradesh.             Adventure sports, snow point and music festivals attracts tourist during the summer months in the region.

Kasauli (Himachal Pradesh): Kasauli once a British sanctuary is located 325 km from Delhi. Orchids, Himalayan oak, horse chestnuts and pine grove, Victorian architect and fruit wine attracts tourist. The place is located 1927 meters above the sea level and the best time to visit it during the summer months.

Dhanaulti (Uttaranchal): Moderate temperature, abundant greenery and the hills attracts tourist in the region. Dhanaulti located 325 km away from Delhi and elevated 2286 meters above the sea level. The place is not only beautiful but, has many historical backgrounds.

Getting there is pretty easy and has a bundle of options from air, car hire, buses as well as the Indian Railways. Although you could opt for any mode of travel, we love travelling by road since that way you see those picturesque little villages and towns along the way. Also it’s lovely to look at the changing landscape as you move from the plains to the mountains.

Corbett Park Nainital

Corbett National Park(Uttaranchal): Corbett National Park established in 1936 as a reserve area for tigers is a haven for birds, animals and plants. The place is located 300 km from Delhi. The best time to visit the park is between November and June

Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary (Haryana): This bird sanctuary is located only 46 km away from Delhi. The best time to visit the place is between October and June.

Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary (Rajasthan): Located 185 km away from Delhi is Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Birds, Hyena, Sambar and Nilgai are the main tourist attraction. It has over 300 species of birds and migratory birds can be seen during the month of October till February.
